ACEC 's 2024 Grand Conceptor for Engineering Excellence: AECOM Grand Central Madison (formerly East Side Access)
AECOM was honored with the coveted Grand Conceptor Award for its work on the Grand Central Madison project on behalf of the New York City MTA.
Grand Central Madison is a massive infrastructure undertaking for New York City and the Long Island Rail Road, creating a more efficient connection between Long Island and Manhattan while broadening the talent pool for Long Island businesses. The project included 40 miles of new tracks, a new terminal, and extensive excavations deep below Park Avenue. The project has led to a 41 percent increase in the use of the LIRR.
The Engineering Excellence Awards are the American Council of Engineering Companies’ annual celebration of the year’s greatest accomplishments in engineering.

EEA National Competition
The Engineering Excellence Awards are an annual celebration of engineering excellence, honoring projects worldwide that demonstrate innovation, creative problem-solving, and engineering’s unique ability to improve our world. The competition is juried by a panel of industry, government, and academic experts. All projects considered by the national competition must first be entered through one of ACEC’s 51 state and metropolitan Member Organizations.
The 2025 EEA Competition is Open
Deadlines for the 2025 Competition:
- Deadline Submissions: Wednesday, January 8th
- The entrant’s company representative must be available by phone: Thursday, January 16th
- Judging Event: Friday thru Sunday, Feb. 21 – 23, 2025
- EEA Gala at the Grand Hyatt: Tuesday, May 20, 2025
